Marbella remains the central premium market on the Costa del Sol, with Puerto Banús as its glamour anchor and the Golden Mile and Nueva Andalucia delivering the bulk of luxury new development supply. This guide covers Marbella itself plus the immediate satellite areas: Nueva Andalucia, Puerto Banús, San Pedro de Alcantara, La Quinta, El Paraiso, Elviria, and Los Monteros. These together form the Marbella functional market.
Living in Marbella
Restaurants & Dining
Marbella has the highest restaurant density on the Costa del Sol. The old town (Casco Antiguo) around Plaza de los Naranjos remains the dining centre, with Puerto Banús for high-end and harbour-view options. Nueva Andalucia (the “Golf Valley”) is dense with mid-range restaurants serving the resident community.
Beaches
Approximately 27 kilometres of beaches across Marbella municipality. Notable: Playa de la Fontanilla and Playa de Venus in central Marbella; Playa de Nagüeles on the Golden Mile; Cabopino beach east of town (the only naturist-designated beach in the area); Elviria beaches which face south and have the best sun exposure.
Golf
Marbella has more golf courses than any other Costa del Sol area â over 20 within 15 minutes drive. Notable: Los Naranjos, Las Brisas, Aloha, La Quinta, Marbella Club Golf, Real Club de Golf Sotogrande (drive). Many new developments are marketed specifically around golf course access.
International Schools
Strongest international school cluster on the coast: Aloha College (IB, San Pedro), Swans International School (Marbella), Laude San Pedro International College, Marbella International University Centre (higher ed), and the British International School of Marbella. School choice is a primary driver for families relocating here.
Healthcare
Hospital Quirónsalud Marbella is the main private hospital. Hospital Costa del Sol is the large public hospital. Marbella also has a dense cluster of specialist clinics â fertility, cosmetic surgery, oncology â that draws international patients (“health tourism”).
Shopping
La Cañada Shopping Centre (north of town) is the largest shopping mall on the western Costa del Sol â anchor stores plus international fashion. Puerto Banús has luxury boutiques (Dior, Versace, Louis Vuitton). El Corte Inglés Marbella for department store shopping. Mercadona and Carrefour throughout.
Transport
Málaga Airport is 45 minutes east via AP-7 toll. There is no train station in Marbella itself (a long-debated rail extension remains stalled). Bus services connect Marbella to Málaga, Fuengirola, and Estepona. Most residents drive.
Why Buy a New Development in Marbella
Marbella delivers liquidity. The resale market is the deepest on the Costa del Sol, meaning new developments here have the strongest exit option if your circumstances change. For pure premium lifestyle (golf, restaurant variety, healthcare specialists, international schools), Marbella has no peer on the central coast. Expect to pay premium prices â Marbella centre and Golden Mile remain the most expensive municipality on the Costa del Sol.
